Packing a hospital bag for labor can feel oddly intense. You’re preparing for one of life’s biggest moments… and also wondering if you need five different lip balms or just three.

Let’s simplify.

This is your calm hospital bag checklist — minimal, practical, and quietly reassuring.

For mum

Start with comfort. Think “I want to feel like a human being again” energy.

  • Loose, soft outfits (think oversized comfort, not fashion week)
  • Nursing bras or supportive bras
  • Maternity pads (not glamorous, deeply necessary)
  • Lip balm (you will use this more than anything else)
  • Peri bottle & peri spray
  • Phone charger (extra long if possible, because sockets are never nearby)
  • Toiletries that make you feel like you again
  • Comfortable grip socks and/or slippers
  • Hair Scrunchie
  • Face wipes
  • Postpartum pads & underwear
  • Your paperwork & ID

For baby

Babies don’t need much. They are already extremely good at being low-maintenance (except when they’re not).

  • 2–3 newborn outfits
  • Diapers (hospital usually has them, but bring extras just in case)
  • A soft blanket or muslin swaddle wrap
  • Pacifier + clip & chain
  • Going-home outfit (this one always feels special, even if it’s just a tiny onesie)

Optional but deeply appreciated

  • Snacks (labour hunger is real and unpredictable)
  • Your favorite water bottle
  • Music, affirmations or something calming for you on your phone
  • A pillow from home (hospital pillows have the emotional support level of a folded napkin)

A small truth

You will almost certainly overpack something unnecessary and forget something obvious. This is part of the experience.

And somehow… it will still all work out.

All the best - try and soak in all the special moments through the pain.
